Knowledge from Isolation

Man is a social animal. This is not a particularly new finding, but the idea already emerged in Aristotle. Humans are not just a social animal - they are also zebras, dogs or guinea pigs - humans are extremely social animals: There are no other mammals that create such complex social systems as humans. We organize our coexistence in states and cities, we work in teams, we live in families or shared apartments, we form friendships. The urge to organize oneself socially goes so far that there is a separate club for every hobby, no matter how remote.

Why do people have such a deeply rooted need for social contact? From an evolutionary point of view there are two important reasons for the social nature of humans. First, social contact and belonging to groups mean a survival advantage, as others can provide protection and comfort. People who organized themselves into groups that cooperated with each other were particularly good at dealing with the threats and adversities of their environment. Second, the exchange and comparison with others allows one to learn something about the world and about oneself. When we compare ourselves to others, we can learn about new, unfamiliar situations (how do the others behave?). But also about ourselves (how do I see the situation in comparison to others?). Information that we gain from such comparisons helps us to understand the new situation a little better, to make it more predictable and so subjectively to experience more control over our lives and the world.

In addition to the need for social contact, the need for control is another deeply rooted motif of human experience.

In Hinduism, crows are thought of as carriers of information that give omens to people regarding their situations.

For example, when a crow appears in front of a person's house, the resident is expected to have special visitors that day.

What is time.

For physicists, the thought of space and time should be what it seems. Ballast that could be dropped.

More than ever we think about what time actually is. Time can go forward and backward. It's stretchy. It can go faster or slower for someone.

It can describe the path of a certain system. When it moves from order to disorder. Or the other way around.

Einstein once said that for physicists the distinction between past, present and future is just the meaning of a persistent illusion.
